LOVE AND STATE: A CONVERSATION ON PIONEER SUMMER AND BEYOND

Book presentation & discussion with Elena Malisova and Katerina Silvanova
The event features Russian author Elena Malisova and Ukrainian author Katerina Silvanova
presenting their bestselling and controversial novel Pioneer Summer (published in German in 2024 as Du und ich und der Sommer).
A major success in the Russian-speaking world, the novel has been banned in Russia under „LGBT propaganda” laws. Both authors now live in exile due to increasing political pressure, while their work stands as a powerful testimony to cultural resistance and literary expression under repression. The event offers an opportunity to engage with the authors and explore themes of queer literature, censorship, and transnational cultural production.
